The Gateway Transition Programme is for students who’re keen on a career in barbering, beauty, or hair but want to stay at school. This programme is recommended for Year 13 students.

Like the Preparation Programme, you’ll spend at least ten days in a barbershop, beauty clinic, or hairdressing salon.

Your school will help you find a work placement – but if you get stuck, just ask HITO. You’ll learn more advanced workplace skills, and you’ll even get to do some practical skills like blow drying and shampooing.

Some of these unit standards are part of the apprenticeship qualification, so if you decide to go onto an apprenticeship you’ll already have part of your qualification sorted.

You’ll receive workbooks for all the unit standards that contain all the information you need.

The next step after completing this programme is an apprenticeship.
