The Gateway Preparation Programme is for students who’ve heard about barbering, beauty, or hair and want to know more. This programme is recommended for Year 12 students.

Students spend at least ten days in a barbershop, beauty clinic, or hairdressing salon, depending on what programme they choose. While students are at the work placement, they’ll learn about client care, customer service, tools and products, and workplace skills. They’ll also complete some theory units on business skills, history, and the science behind what they’re doing in the workplace.

Students receive workbooks for all the unit standards that contain all the information they need.

Once students complete one of these programmes they can move onto the Gateway Transition Programme, or even start an apprenticeship!
