Last Saturday in the capital, a glittery event lit up the waterfront as New Zealand’s best beauty therapists, nail technicians, and makeup artists came together to celebrate success.

HITO was the Gold Sponsor of the first ever Beauty NZ Association Awards, held at Te Papa and run by the NZ Association of Registered Beauty Professionals.

As the Industry Training Organisation for beauty, HITO was very proud to be part of such a glamorous event. Guests entered on a red carpet while photographers took pictures and camera crews interviewed them. The red-carpet theme was fully embraced, with floor length gowns, sparkling jewelry, perfect manicures, and flawless makeup.

As HITO is the standard-setting body for beauty qualifications and apprenticeships, we love to recognise success and achievement in the industry. Events like the Beauty Awards help us celebrate our beauty industries and help them to flourish.

During the night, we celebrated the best in the industry, with awards such as Best New Business, Nail Technician of the Year, and Student of the Year (to name a few). These awards really celebrated the immense diversity within the sector.

The best part of the awards was the opportunity for beauty businesses, therapists, makeup artists, and nail technicians, to reflect on their achievements and success. The people who work in these industries spend their careers making others look and feel good, so it was fantastic to see them recognised.

HITO staff enjoyed the opportunity to network with people in the industry and learn more about their businesses and inspirational lives. It also gave HITO a chance to talk about the new and much improved Beauty qualification that was recently released. We are certainly looking forward to getting more involved in the beauty industry in the future.

Congratulations to the finalists and the winners. You should be extremely proud of your accomplishments. We can’t wait to celebrate with you at next years’ awards. We also can’t wait to celebrate with you at the 2017 HITO, Kitomba, and NZARH Industry Awards, where (for the first time) some of our beauty therapy apprentices will compete for HITO Apprentice of the Year! We love working with the beauty industry, celebrating success, and helping our industries grow with our national qualifications and on-the-job training. We can’t wait to see what the future brings.
