Off-job training arrangements for hairdressing and barbering apprentices have been confirmed for 2019.

Hairdressing

For the following regions we have scheduled off-job training as day release classes: Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, Bay of Plenty, Manawatu, Whanganui, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Dunedin, Southland.

For Central Otago, Kaikoura, Blenheim, Gisborne, Coromandel, West Coast, where apprentices would have to drive more than an hour to our provider, we have scheduled block classes that will be delivered in Wellington.

All theory and practical assessments will be carried out at off-job training.

Employers and apprentices will be emailed the specific dates and location of their training early in December 2018.

The total number of days required to attend will be:

Year Number of attendance days
Year 1 10 Days (60 hours) – 6 hours per day OR 2 x 5 day blocks
Year 2 12 days (72 hours) – 6 hours per day OR 2 x 5 day blocks
Year 3 10 days (60 hours) – 6 hours per day OR 2 x 5 day blocks

Barbering

Year 1 apprentices will attend two block courses at Varda, Hamilton, one in April and one in July. Each course will be four-days long and cover theory and practical assessments.

Year 2 apprentices will attend five days training at Varda, Hamilton or Headspace, Christchurch. Those attending Varda will attend one five-day course in July covering theory and practical assessments. Those attending Headspace will attend one three day course in April covering theory and one two-day course in September covering practical assessments.

Employers and apprentices will be emailed the specific dates and location of their training in December 2018.
