HITO & L’Oréal are excited to announce their Facing Your Future partnership. An extension on L’Oréal’s current work with Fostering Kids NZ, this programme offers ten full barbering, beauty therapy, or hairdressing scholarships to young people in the foster care system.
The scholarships will:
- Give each scholarship recipient a job and an apprenticeship in the industry of their choice
- Cover all apprentice fees and training costs
- Give all recipients access to the L’Oréal and Fostering Kids NZ support programmes
Each scholarship recipient will complete a Level 4 national qualification in barbering, beauty therapy, or hairdressing through a HITO apprenticeship. The HITO Sales and Training Advisors will support the scholarship recipients and their employers throughout their training.

Do you want to help people look and feel better inside and out? Then a beauty therapy apprenticeship could be right for you.
A beauty therapy apprentice works in a beauty clinic. They train with a qualified trainer, learning about manicure, pedicure, waxing, massage, facials, spray tanning, and more. They learn in a real work environment, building their relationships with clients and getting paid a wage while they train.
Beauty therapy apprenticeships take 21 months to complete. At the end, graduates hold the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Beauty Therapy and are ready to be a senior beauty therapist.
Are you a creative people-person who wants to transform the way people look and feel? Then a hairdressing apprenticeship could be your next step.
Hairdressing apprentices work in a hairdressing salon, training under a qualified hairdresser and earning a wage while they train. Hairdressing apprentices learn everything about hair – how to cut, colour, style, perform chemical services, create beautiful hair ups (and more). Opportunities outside the salon are endless, too – think fashion week, international work, training and more.
Hairdressing apprenticeships take 3.5 years to complete. Graduates gain the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist). They also gain their ipsn international certificate.
Looking for a creative, fast-paced, people-focussed career? Try a barbering apprenticeship.
Barbering apprentices work in a barbershop with a qualified barber to train them. They learn how to cut and style hair, beards, and mustaches, perform a wet shave, and learn all about the hair and scalp. The most exciting thing about barbering is how quickly you learn skills – a barbering apprentice can be cutting hair within three months! Like beauty therapy apprentices, barbering apprentices get paid a wage while they train.
Barbering apprenticeships take 2.5 years. Barbers gain the Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Commercial Barbering.
