HITO becoming the Standards Setting Body for National Beauty Qualifications
After discussion with NZQA in late 2007, HITO was informed that Beauty unit standards would not be de-registered if HITO had support from the Beauty industry to become the industry’s ITO for Beauty.
In 2007 HITO sought funding from the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to undertake a formal investigation into HITO becoming the ITO for Beauty. During this period, de-registration of the current Beauty qualifications was postponed while research was undertaken by HITO.
TEC approved this research project which began in February 2008. After consultation with the New Zealand Beauty Association Executive Committee, support for the research was received. An industry forum was established on 16 June 2008. At this forum members of the NZ Beauty Association and the wider beauty industry met and discussed the opportunity that HITO presented as a potential standards setting body for Beauty.
The forum minutes, and industry feedback culminated in a report for TEC, NZQA and all stakeholders in the Beauty industry. This report indicated that there was support from the Beauty industry for HITO to manage national Beauty qualifications.
