The Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation (HITO) is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for the barbering, beauty and hairdressing industries.

HITO administers the apprenticeship programme, including the management of on and off job training. We liaise with both the NZ Association of Registered Hairdressers and with the Association of Beauty Therapists NZ and the wider industry to set the standards of New Zealands national barbering, beauty and hairdressing qualifications. HITO offer national certificates in hairdressing, barbering, salon support, and salon management.

An apprenticeship is the best way to become a qualified hairdresser or barber. You learn in a real salon or barber, with real people, earning while you learn, so you won't need a large student loan. Everything you need to take the first steps in beginning a career in hairdressing or barbering is on this site. HITO offer training for all levels from those still at school to upskilling and salon management.
