Hilary-Duffy-Champion

Hilda Duffy has owned Salon St Bruno in Rotorua for six years. Ever since purchasing her salon, Hilda has worked with HITO to train her staff. She currently has five apprentices.

“The benefit of HITO training is that trainees are on my wavelength. It provides guidelines and helps to get the outcome we want. HITO training helps ensure that my idea of good work is the same as my trainees. You know what you are getting as people have been trained to do it properly. This helps us be to viewed as a professional industry,” she says.

“Apprenticeship training results in better retention, better quality of work and happier clients.”

“Rotorua has very few apprentices around, and very few qualified senior stylists. We need to get as many people in training as we can as it’s important for hairdressing to be seen as a great career to choose to be part of,” says Hilda.

“I have high expectations of what my trainees can achieve, and so does HITO. By working together with the apprentice, we are helping ensure they have the skills they need to succeed.”

“HITO back you up all the time and ensure standards are being met. Trainees are not just answerable to me but also to HITO. Without HITO, we wouldn’t be seen as an industry to be proud of.”

“Offering training and apprenticeships is about doing your bit for growth towards a career in a professional industry. Apprenticeship training results in better retention, better quality of work and happier clients.”
