Why choose HITO?

Grant-Bettjeman-Champion

Grant Bettjeman and his partner Phif have owned salons for 25 years. For the last ten years they have owned the award winning Bettjemans salon in Auckland. Bettjemans currently employs ten stylists and five apprentices.

Grant estimates that he would have supported around 20 apprentices to complete their apprenticeships over the last 25 years.

“The biggest benefit of having apprentices is that it frees up your stylists so that you can focus their energy on the high end stuff. Having apprentices do things like colours, shampooing and indulgent treatments such as head and shoulder massages, enables the salon to function at full capacity.”

“Having apprentices frees up my senior stylists, greatly enhances their turnaround, and ensures a world class service.”

“Apprentices bring in fresh new ideas and create a real buzz in the salon.”

“In the salon we’re pretty vocal about our focus on training and our clients really support it.”

“We talk about apprenticeships a lot in our salon, especially since Ardita (Rakovica) took out the HITO Apprentice of the Year in 2008. Our clients are definitely au fait with it. They like the idea of apprenticeships and that we’re behind apprenticeships too.”

“Three of our ten senior stylists started off as apprentices in our salon. In the next couple of months I expect that Ardita will become the fourth.”

“I don’t know how salons without training can run. How do they think they are going to get the next generation of hairdresser that they‘ll one day need in their salon?”
