Ashleigh
HITO Apprentice, 20 y/o
HITO are really supportive throughout your apprenticeship."
Ashleigh has always wanted to be a hairdresser, it’s a chance for her to express her creativity and also her social skills, working as a team and with clients. An apprenticeship appealed to her as the best way to train because of the real skills she would learn on the job.
“HITO allowed me to meet other apprentices and share experiences. Hearing about their experiences in other salons is a great way to learn first hand about expectations and how you can move up the ranks in the industry.”
Support was also a big requirement for her training and again she’s been delighted with the results. “HITO are really supportive throughout your apprenticeship. They regularly check up on how you are going, answer any questions you have and direct you in a positive way to make sure you succeed”.
Now she’s on her way to starting a successful career, her goal is to teach others overseas and eventually own her own salon.

Martin
HITO Apprentice, 20 y/o
HITO will help me get there because they support me and push me to succeed.”
Martin is a man on a mission, passionate about hairdressing, he’s in no doubt about what he wants to do and where he wants to be, “I want to be a session stylist and travel the world. HITO will help me get there because they support me and push me to succeed and also because HITO is also a recognised qualification overseas.”
To reach his goals Martin has chosen a HITO apprenticeship because he feels he can get to where he wants to be faster, “I always knew I wanted to get my qualification through a salon rather than a classroom because I knew I would get more real life experience and learn a lot faster. HITO offers me the chance to do that. By doing a HITO apprenticeship, it gets you working with real clients. There are more real life experiences which is much more personal than just having one teacher in a classroom.”
Even though he’s learning he’s also playing a key role in helping others to achieve their dreams “through HITO I have been selected to be part of the Regional Apprentice Council which allows me to help my peers as well as my career. I was selected by HITO which makes me feel special and encourages me to work hard toward finishing my apprenticeship.”

Cam
HITO Apprentice, 22 y/o
there is a lot more to hairdressing and the industry than what people think.”
For Cam, an apprenticeship in hairdressing has been full of surprises and discoveries, “I get to learn real skills and an understanding that there is a lot more to hairdressing and the industry than what people think”.
His goal is to become a session stylist at New York fashion week, and he’s taking steps towards that goal with exposure gained from his salon, “my apprenticeship through HITO gave me the most amazing opportunity. Two photographers had heard about me through the salon I was working at and approached me to do the styling fora photo shoot which was awesome! You wouldn’t get that in a classroom”.
