During your apprenticeship you will need help and support with many things. HITO can offer you:
HITO Sales & Liaison Managers (SLMs)
There are seven HITO Sales and Liaison Managers around the country and you will have one who will be your direct contact with HITO.
They will visit you on a regular basis at the salon or barbershop to help make sure that you are on track and to find out how your training is going.
You can contact your SLM during normal office hours at any time, but remember that they are on the road every day, so might not be able to answer the phone immediately. But they will get back to you, so leave a message.
Forma Magazine
The quarterly HITO magazine “Forma” will be sent to you and your salon every 3 months and will feature news, events, profiles of apprentice and employers and will also explain what is going on in the world of hair and beauty industry training.
eForma – email newsletter
HITO also sends out an email newsletter to all apprentices on a regular basis to keep you up to date with important developments and news to your email inbox. You can un-subscribe to this at any time but you might also miss out on some competitions or special offers.
HITO Website
HITO has developed a website that will give you all of the news and information about apprenticeships, documents and forms, profiles of learners and employers and will provide a vacancies section. Look out for new functionality in the website too where you will be able to log in and see your progress through your apprenticeship.
Regional Apprenticeship Committees (RAC)
Each region of the country has a committee which helps HITO collect information from employers, apprentices and customers about how apprenticeships are working in the region. This is very important for HITO as we want to make sure that apprentices and employers are working closely together to make apprenticeships successful for everyone.
Events and promotions
At HITO, we’re committed to providing our apprentices with some wonderful events. Every year we host the HITO Annual Awards and we work closely with other organisations to make this event fantastic and open to all of the industry.
We also support WorldSkills events in New Zealand. You can find out more about WorldSkills on our WorldSkills page.
HITO also holds additional special training and development sessions for apprentice, trainers and employers throughout the year to help with skills and knowledge.
We’re committed to making sure that apprentices complete all of their unit standards and complete their qualification on time. Everything we do is to help support this goal.
