The Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation was established in 1993 as the
recognised Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for the hairdressing industry. Our mission
statement is "To establish and maintain the achievement of high
quality, relevant hairdressing qualifications as an essential investment for
the industry and its clients".
Our role is to make sure that industry training standards are maintained, and that the
information and skills being taught are correct and relevant. We also administer the
apprenticeship programme, including the delivery of on and off job training.
HITO Mission Statement
To establish and maintain the achievement of
high quality and relevant Hairdressing qualifications as an essential
investment for the industry and it's clients.

Services
The HITO offers a number of services to the hairdressing industry:
-
Our
Sales & Liaison Managers will regularly visit and provide advice to employers and
apprentices.
-
We may know of employers looking for apprentices, or potential apprentices looking for
an apprenticeship.
-
We administer the moderation process, which ensures that hairdressing
and barbering assessments meet
the national standard.
-
We develop and produce training related products and publications.
-
We provide subsidies
for off-job training.
-
We work with the industry to ensure that unit standards and qualifications remain up to
date and relevant.
-
An
Employment Agreement suitably developed for apprentices by the HITO
can be purchased to compliment their training agreement.
Apprentice Fees 2007 and Beyond
As the HITO is government funded to
support the training of apprentices, there is a requirement that the
Industry also contributes.
For this reason there is an
apprentice "sign on" fee and if employers have apprentices they
need to be NZAH members or pay an annual fee. This allows the HITO to
administer a training programme, provide support and contribute 75%
towards the off job training fees.
There has been difficulty with the
apprentice payment and the HITO recovery of the annual fees.
To reduce the confusion and stress
associated to this annual fee payment, the HITO Board and management have
decided on the following for new apprentices.
A "One Off" payment
effective from 1 January 2007:
Hairdressing:
- New 1st year apprentices-$315
- New 2nd year apprentices-$210
- New 3rd year apprentices-$160
Barbering:
- New 1st year apprentices -$260
- New 2nd year apprentices-$160
Anyone signing into a training
agreement to complete the final two units will pay $105.
If you are already signed into a
training agreement and paying $100 per year this will continue. Please
ensure that you are paying the $100 yearly by the due date on the invoice
to avoid further action being taken.
