Your hairdressing apprenticeship will include learning hairdressing skills. You will be able to consult with a client, determine what it is the client wants and what will suit your clients needs.

You will be able to make informed decisions about actions that can be carried out in a professional manner, recommend home hair care products, learn how to run an efficient position in a hairdressing salon and the skills to effectively cut, colour and style professionally.

What is the qualification?

To become a qualified hairdresser you will need to gain National Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist). This is registered on the National Qualification Framework (NQF). It consists of 42 unit standards with a total credit value of 336 credits.

When you have completed all these units you will receive your National Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist). This is awarded by NZQA.

This qualification can lead to the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Management) Level 5 with strands in Assessment of Hairdressing, Tutoring in Hairdressing and Salon Management.
